Creativity Freedom and Determinism

Abstract:

The paper presents a theoretical analysis of the problem of dialectical unity of creativity freedom and determinism — a general psychological principle of causality proposed by S. L. Rubinsteyn. The paper provides a rationale for «a refraction effect of external influence through the subject’s mental state, through his established mindset and feelings». It is shown that creativity freedom and determinism are mutually reinforcing. Determinism provides a cause of motivation for the creative process, which encourages a person to look for the unknown and enhances a person’s mental activity. Creative activities reveal new determinants, relationships between objects and phenomena, new needs and motives that activate cognition. Based on the reflexive activity approach, developed by E. I. Kuzmina (1992), the paper presents the results of a theoretical and empirical study of the correlation between creativity freedom and determinism.
