Socio-demographic Determiners of the Temporal Characteristics of a Career

Abstract: 

The paper focuses on the correlations between socio-demographic characteristics of respondents and their professional career temporal characteristics (PCTC) which were established using the samples of representatives of different professions (the study included 1184 people aged 30–60). The study identified positive correlations between age, length of service in the organization, position, length of service in this position, marital status, number of children in the family, as well as correlations (positive in some subcultures, negative in others) between the gender and the birthplace and the above mentioned characteristics. The study established that women, middle-aged people, upper and middle managers, and people born in small settlements have «denser» professional records, work longer in the same organization and on the same position than men, young professionals, lower managers, and those who were born in big cities. The conditions of the professional environment — the nature of professional responsibilities, the corporate culture of the organization, the average characteristics of gender and age of the company’s employees and their places of birth «deflect» the correlations of socio-demographic characteristics of the subjects. «Length of employment in the organization», «Position», and «Gender» function as autonomous variables, as the background for the next career cycles of the subjects.
