Socio-Cultural Matrix of Personality Development

Abstract:

The author uses her original approach to treat the role of personal representations of «Self – Other» in the development, formation, and self-determination of a person, which are constructed at different levels of the subject’s interaction (culture, society, personality). The paper suggests that it is culture and society that create conditions necessary for the development of personality by designing a kind of a socio-cultural matrix, but that it is a person that chooses meaningful reasons and value orientation for the trajectory of his/her spiritual and moral development. Constructing representations of the interactions «Self – symbolic Other», «Self – real Other», «Self – personalized Other» allows a person to actively explore culture, to adapt to the social world, and to build itself as a unique individuality. The applied aspect of the problem under study is that it can be implemented in personality development and self-improvement psychological training programs and programs aimed at optimizing personality’s real interactions with Other. This study can also be used to design programs aimed at introducing personality to resource capacities of culture.
