Communication in the Context of Consciousness and Social Dynamics of Culture

Abstract:

The paper presents the findings of a theoretical analysis of the correlation between communication phenomena and consciousness, communication and culture, involving basic concepts of mass communication, in which an understanding of its nature, from transfer of information to symbolization and narrativization, is gradually developed. Social communication is viewed as the basic process of building psychosocial identity. In an information society associated with the emergence of a total sign environment, its meaning as a channel of inter- and intracultural transmission of meanings and means of construction of identity increases. The paper analyzes the concepts of mass communication, dealing with the impact of the media and the Internet on consciousness and culture. Types and forms of communication are correlated with processes of structuration of social interaction and expansion of consciousness, with the means of achieving group unity and realization of identity. The research confirmed the theoretical hypothesis that in the information society the importance of communicative practices as a channel of inter- and intracultural transmission of meanings and means of construction of identity increases
