Formation of Discriminatory Personal Attitudes in the Process of Socialization
Discriminatory attitudes are an important regulator of individual and group behavior that is expressed towards representatives of various groups in the modern society. The importance of overcoming discriminatory attitudes for innovative development of the society has been confirmed. The article presents results of theoretical analysis of the problem of discriminatory attitudes formation from the standpoint of individual socialization. It is assumed that there are various sources of discriminatory attitudes that are actualized at different levels of individual socialization. The article introduces the definition of discriminatory attitude as readiness and predisposition of an individual to behavior that limits the activity of other people, which is formed in the process of socialization of the individual in various groups, regulating the actions and integral attitude of a person to representatives of out-groups. We viewed two levels of assimilation of discriminatory attitudes, i.e. in the process of primary and secondary socialization, as well as their specific features. We also analysed the sources of discriminatory attitudes, i.e. personality, group, society and culture. The study revealed correlation of attitude and consistent behavior of an individual in relation to group pressure and pressure related to interpersonal relations. The article offers guidelines for practical application of scientific and theoretical knowledge about discriminatory attitudes. It also outlines the prospects for the development of programs aimed at overcoming discriminatory attitudes and scientific research in this field.
